How to Make the Most of College Technical Events

Symposiums, workshops, FDPs & conferences — attend smarter and get more out of every event.

Every semester, hundreds of colleges across Tamil Nadu host technical events. Most students either miss them or attend without a plan. This guide helps you change that — from finding events to networking like a pro.

Know What Each Event Offers

 Technical Symposiums

Paper presentations, project expos, coding contests. Open to students from other colleges. Great for certificates, prizes, and seeing how peers solve the same problems.

 Workshops

Hands-on sessions on tools not taught in curriculum — ML, PCB design, drones, cybersecurity. Two days here can save months of self-study. Always bring a laptop.

 Conferences

For presenting and publishing research papers. Even as a delegate, you can read papers, meet researchers, and build connections that lead to internships or MS recommendations.

 FDPs

Faculty Development Programmes — many are open to final-year UG and PG students. Structured learning in cutting-edge topics like AI, IoT, and 6G systems.

How to Get OD Permission Smoothly

1
Show the brochure earlyApproach your faculty advisor at least 4–5 days before the event with the official brochure or event link.
2
Use Thirai's Approval Letter GeneratorGenerate a professional OD request letter instantly at thirai.in — saves time and looks official.
3
Apply 3–4 days in advanceLast-minute requests are often denied simply due to paperwork delays — not because of the event itself.
4
Apply as a groupIf multiple classmates want to attend, submit together — group requests are viewed more favourably by faculty and HoDs.
 Document your attendance

Photograph the event for LinkedIn and your portfolio. Post about it while the experience is fresh — this builds your professional presence over time.
